Stacy Szymaszek and Aaron Tieger read last night at the Plow & Stars in Cambridge. Their poems soon drowned out any chatter in the wood-panelled bar, rain most of the evening outside. Szymaszek read sequences from her book Emptied of All Ships (Litmus Press, 2005) and from a great long poem called "Some Mariners," presented in chapter-like pauses for an enveloping, fragmented sea plot. Aaron read from a manuscript entitled "Anxiety Chants" and from his new chapbook February (Fewer & Further Press, 2006):
"old songs sit
in reels on shelves."
