I don't remember what exact songs Pavement played at the Ritz Theater in Ybor City (Tampa) around April 1994. I hadn't heard them before beyond a few abrasive singles. But they must have played parts of Wowee Zowee that night. The re-issued version Matador's just released has a recording from Australia that summer playing several songs off the upcoming album, psychedelic in a semi-serious way. The band was walking around the audience beforehand, no one recognized them. They played pretty informally, the Ritz Theater having been built in the cigar factory era had great acoustics and they played loudly. More or less an unknown band I'd heard scattered songs from, composing their best work around then for this LP. Anonymous city music.
