Adriano González León (1931-2008)

The author of the novel País portátil (Seix Barral, 1968), Adriano González León died of a heart attack in a tavern in Las Mercedes, Caracas on Saturday. His journey from one end of the valley to the other by bus, the pedestrian’s city, relations with Salvador Garmendia’s short stories, the poets associated with the writer’s collective El Techo de la Ballena, Sabana Grande bars and cafés in the 1960s, a devoted reader of the French symbolists, he’d cite them in his lectures at UCV in the 1990s. (Iria Puyosa recalls his classes at the Escuela de Letras.) His Thursday column in El Nacional, where he’d recently praised the university students. An obituary at El Universal.
